AJIJOLA HABEEB WINNER WORTHY OF MENTION POET OF THE MONTH AT LOUDTHOTZ POETRY OPEN READING SEASON 10 EPISODE 4 THEN

AJIJOLA HABEEB - WINNER WORTHY OF MENTION POEM OF THE MONTH

THEN – (worthy of mention)

Once,
We were notes from exotic instruments
Inks that flowed in place of blood
We were wisdom muddled in the breathes of sages
We were words rhyming with the brightness of the day

Once,
We held our hearts in our hands
Our soul on our lips
We were soldiers who fought against wars

Then,
The liquid our eyes birthed was the only solid thing we own
We were brethren of the wind
Sons of nothing
Bagatelles of whom no one would tell

Then,
Our sights had eyes
And our voices had mouths
Even though we had no mouth to voice them
We were whales living inside of tadpoles

Then,
We had lives we exchanged for living
Days we exchanged for death
Lungs we traded for breath
We hung our days at the doorstep of the grim reaper
To await nights that never wakes up
Daily we pay the price to die
Yet, the angel of death, it seems is out of stock

Now,
What better way to explain the taste of night
Other than silence

BEEJAY IS WINNER POEM OF THE MONTH AT LOUDTHOTZ POETRY OPEN READING SEASON 10 EPISODE 4 - THEN

BEEJAY WINNER POEM OF THE MONTH

THEN! – (poem of the month)
It is in the moment of pain, we seek for bliss
In tears, we seek for joy and assurances
It is in the moment of down-times, we
Seek for high loops and peace undiluted

Your days have been filled with questions of why(s)
Your mind kept screaming with pains, yet inaudible
To the eyes with swollen lips and a mouth rid of laughter
Your heart reeks of prayers unanswered and desires
Unfulfilled, yet with the battle of the mighty succumbing
You hold on, wondering if it will ever get better
You say it out loud and to anyone who cares to listen

Will it ever get better?

Days of weakness and days filled with tears and pains
Will it ever get better?
Fulfillment of dreams and desires set at day breaks
Will it ever get better?
With the guards who guard and left his soul forlorn
Will it ever get better?

But then,
The sun will shine again, with the colors blinding you to days
Of unending pains and unfulfilled desires.
The moon will come out bright and full and the stars will be numerous
Your heart will cry at the release of your blessings
Then, your smile will no longer be half baked, only wrapping the tips of your lips
Your happiness will be so full, your belly will scream with joy.
Just hold on to the time of then.
BEEJAY!
