"SEEKING" A POEM READ BY IFEANYI OKWOSHA AT LOUDTHOTZ POETRY OPEN READING S3E5 BREATHE

Seeking
An endless search for knowledge
Searching for the self
Urging on search for things unknown
The known yet to be understood

Avarice, aggression, animosity, bigotry,
Bitterness, cleverness, cruelty, corruption,
Greed, Pride, pseudo-knowledge, wickedness,
A cocktail of doom

Who will be my sign post?
What will be my guide to…?
Where will the answers be?
As it is said the answers are…

The answers! To what questions!
The questions of one who is seeking
Seeking for what?
Seeking for answers

"A MAD MAN HOLLERED" A POEM READ BY MAC TAIWO OLUYOMI AT LOUDTHOTZ POETRY OPEN READING SEASON 3 EPISODE 5 "BREATHE"(THE BEST POEM FOR THE MONTH"

A MAD MAN HOLLERED
Okete bayi ni wa re
Okete o! ba yi ni wa re o!
Oba’fa mule oda’fa
Oba’fa mule oda’fa o!
Ifa jigijigi ifa mo gboro kan
Ifa jigijigi o , ifa mo gboro kan o!
Okete bayi ni wa re
Okete o! ba yi ni wa re o!

Like a bat that has no eyes but still catches its prey in the dark
I’ll keep my lover in the grave
Why?! You’ll ask
Because when man would die liberty would perish, blood would be in the veins of roaches and the roaches would rise above hate!
Mad man would palm the wine and pepper the soup when he hears of his soldiers that fell into the enemy’s ditch
But mad man you’ve made no sense in all of these
Mad man replies ‘when I made sense you all though t I did but not anymore
Just before I died I visited where I would be buried but even in death men are unequal
Men gone the way yonder still conquer me
After they’ve taken Ori Olokun and my Nok pieces
Okete bayi ni wa re
Okete o! ba yi ni wa re o!
Oba’fa mule oda’fa
Oba’fa mule oda’fa o!

A child lays unstill in a room waiting to breathe the air of life
But mad man snatches mother’s life for felony
‘Why must you import flash torch lights?’
When snakes fight they embrace
So call not an infidel the maiden that pounds the king’s yam in a small mortar
Mad man has thrown a cat among pigeons
Light hearted health officers who sallies with a rod and ask occupiers to provide pails for excrement
Then mad man would approve the size of pails
Mad man lies by day and night by day instructing that we must vote not the opposition else he’ll pull the pipes that supply water
Okete bayi ni wa re
Okete o! ba yi ni wa re o!
Oba’fa mule oda’fa
Oba’fa mule oda’fa o!

Union jack lowered then mad man hoisted new
Mad man makes verbose many promises
Each time cleaning his face with the edge of his wrapper and blows his nose into it
A sign that he is a man and he won’t but lie again
Like a lamb that runs as fast as his legs would take him we run
But mad man waits patiently like a lion till we gallop unto his table
I am Mad man and i see you are sad in the least and hurt in the worst yet I know you’ll again make me king!
