POEMS READ AT LOUDTHOTZ POETRY OPEN READING SEASON 5 EPISODE 6 'KNOW"

WHO ARE YOU?

I wish I could read your mind
To know why there's a glint in your eyes
To be able to see your fleeting thoughts
To know why you just smiled
The reason why you shook your head
Or why you just gritted your teeth
What makes you squirm and close your eyes
Or almost choke on your glass of wine
The simple reason why you shrugged
Or why you sometimes smirk or look smug
I wonder what your brain cells hoard
Actions are supposed to speak louder than words
But your actions are a language unheard
I want to reach behind your emotional wall
To peep through the window of your soul
To open up your minds door
To know.....

Meet Me Tomorrow
Meet me tomorrow at the junction
Where I lump the past and the future into one
And carry my presents into war

Meet me tomorrow at the junction
Offerings in black plates
Three footpaths meet, only in darkness

Meet me tomorrow at the junction
I have leaflets to share
I have presents from paradise to give
I want to gift paradise to geeks

Meet me tomorrow at the junction
I have a will, unwilling to submit
I cry that I’m peace
You not seeing that leaves me pissed

Meet me tomorrow at the junction

I demand faith, but I prove it with stuns
I abhor hate but I love with guns

Meet me tomorrow at the junction
Let’s count victims and believers
Let’s chase those in need of deliverance
Let’s shout about heaven at dawn with microphones
You are free to choose, but I’ll force you to listen
Your windows might be closed
But you are going to hell, if you don’t reason

She had a child within and without
She loves a man, with a different faith or thereabouts
So then they are gathered, she will be pebbled to death
In order to please a lord, who creates life
And what other proof of their high state do you require,
If murder will get you to heaven, there is nothing in life to desire

Meet me tomorrow at the junction
The woman with the child is the main function
First pebble is from her brother
If through that, they’ve shown love, why should the rest bother

Meet me tomorrow at the junction
Religion is often same as corruption
Man in the pulpit collects taxes better than Mr Governor
He can draw love and hatred from the same juice
And drinking it could make you feel like, you are on a ship cruise

Cruise with me tomorrow to the junction
Love and hate are the same, just label the function
My brethren are kin
On the others, I’m not keen

Meet me tomorrow at the junction
Love is sweet, only at the war front
They won’t bring back the girls they labored to catch
A few weeks earlier they found boys, whose throats they slit from the backs

Meet me tomorrow at the junction
Because you reap benefits, it isn’t corruption
Because it isn’t your daughter missing
You are obliged to lack reason
To say something nice about the others, can make you guilty of treason

Meet me tomorrow at the junction
Grease makes hands slippery
Bliss can make you forever sleepy
The sleeping don’t often reason
Absence of reason never lasts long
There are boys at the junction
Singing raw songs
They are often willing recruits
For bloody functions
Including religious ones…

You are the reason...

There are no stars in the sky tonight
not even the whitish face of the moon at sight-
to bring down its rays.

So my thought travels afar
along miles across hills and houses
among shrubs and across the silent sea
while wishing this verse seeks her wherever she may be.

you are the reason
why my pen lace the inks and skates on paper.
you are the reason
why my heart beat makes rhymes with time
seeking you out yet at prime.

But I am yet to set face on her
just like warriors dream of conquered lands.
But here that i sit
penning this word to paper
every word tells tales of her.

Tales of a lady pious
every great man do long for.
Tales of a woman
so adoring like the gulls adore the sea.
Wherever she may be
i implore this poetic verses to bring her smile.

You are the reason...
why i do tremble
not out of fear-
but of the tales that love beholds.
You are the reason
why I so much longed to hear you call
You are the reason
why I long to see the winter fall.

I do believe love exist in the strangest of places
and If it has been written-
I shall trace my steps to you
wherever life bid you be- among millions of
faces
so proud to be blessed to have your love.

Blank

Where goes the love for words
Something I crave like the air I breathe
Why the struggle to draw her out
When at my finger tip it does reside
It has become scarce
Like a jungle so thick you cannot see through
Confusion gathers around my thought like weeds
Nothing comes in nothing goes out
Road block
Gabbage in gabbage out they say
But here the park looks so full with nothing

Where goes the love we shared
Something I cherish like life itself
Why the struggle to hold her now
When at every step I have her near
It has become so impossible
Like walls so thick you cannot see through
Indecision clouds my thought like a spider's web
Nothing seems to be the same
Closed doors
It takes two to tango they say
But here alone I stand in the cold

Where goes the song we sang
Something so soothing it calms our nerves
Why the struggle to make good tunes
When all around us nature sings
It has become so bland
Like pills so bitter you cannot swallow
Noise defile our ears like a mad rapist on heat
Nothing seems to speak again
Dry tunes
If there is no song there is no dance they say
But here we dance to no songs.

THE LOOP
Lost in the gallows of my pains
Buried in the sorrow of my thoughts
I reflect upon the times of my life
It no doubt was filled with strife
Never the less
It will be a source of joy to lives
To life there are rules
WIth the rules life abound
He knows the rules
Johnbull acts like he makes them
So he should know them
May be he does know them
Because
He calls the shots
That I have seen a lot
Well...
He got shot
And didn't live to tell the story
ANother story is told
Of that team that think they know
Not a long time ago
They got the scold
Good to be bold
You never know when it works
But dont wait to be told
So you can remain in the fold
So Folks
If i have my way
I will pray
You need to be in the know

SOUL MATES

From the first eye contact
Attraction like a surging ocean
United us in an uncommon embrace
We did not heed the subtle impulse of soul mates
As our heads made the decisions
Decisions that plunged us into misery and heart breaks
Heart breaks that were a fruit of soulless decisions

Experiences define us as we evolve
Unquenchable zest for new adventures
As we win or lose in this race against time
A moment’s pause within this timeless zest
To examine triumphs and failures
The throbbing of my heart sent a reminder of
That first eye contact
My head ready to listen to my heart

I hope for once I will not arrive late for the party
As I wrestled the restlessness of waiting for an opportunity to dance
Hello, Hi
The beginning of it all
Different genre of music challenged us to move
Fast or slow
We danced
I couldn't have asked for a better partner

I CHOOSE
I choose to live this life
Like a brand new wife
Love it as if there is no other
Love it like my first child
The strength of my loins
Share it like the last bite
Only with loved ones
Guard it like my soul
That the evil one wish to take
I choose to love this one life
Wear it out like my best clothe
Honour it like a blood oath
Bring it closer to bright lights
Hang it on highest heights
Away from nagging negatives
I choose to adore this life
Worship it like my one God
Treat it like my first love
Love it like a lost love
Protect it with my last breath
Look into the eyes of lost chances
And wear it like a won prize.

CONTROL
(Oyindamola Fakile… 10072014

(Wrap me up, wrap me up, wrap me all up in…)
I unbutton my shirt and let it trickle
Tickling my fancy
Letting my juices erupt
Uncontrollably
Control! Look, here it comes again
Its on the roll again
So please don’t leave me Control
Control, I need you?
Seems like I’m getting the blues
Come back….. now
Come back….. maybe
Never
Loose me control!
As I dive and get lost
In this dark coffee!
Don’t look for me
This is my sea now
Come seat and watch
How I float without your reins
How I speed off,
Like a car with pedals off
Like wheels now rolling hands free
Each time I crash….. its climax!

THE BEAST OF POETRY

Stare hard at the paper till the words form.
Weave the thoughts delicately and carefully,
nurture the words into fruition
like a midwife,
guiding them tenderly
as they appear under the surface of consciousness.

Mis-time the moment and mourn
the transient existence of a sentence

dead in midlife

Curse your failing mind;
blame it on witchcraft: the result of the fall-out
between your mother and her peers
in their fabled covens;
covenants of servitude and consequent prosperity;
motherhood and subsequent posterity;
brotherhood and reticent maturity.

Reclaim your right to rule your spirit,
murder your fears and tame
the beast of poetry.

Water your gift and become a myth
like Santa Clause and John Baptist,
and men will discard their realities
to preserve your legend.

This has always been the way of the true wordsmith.
